Basketball Player Kicked off Team and Expelled from Christian School

I offer these posts as a satirical view of life and events in our world, especially the world of the American church. Enjoy.

Senior Forward Scott Benson went to the Free Throw Line with 1 second left with his team, "The Victors" of Perryville Christian School, trailing "The Saints" of Dunsmore Christian School, 72-71 for a "One and One" Foul Shot. Students from both schools were yelling and cheering at the top of their voices as Benson bounced the ball before taking the first shot. Just as he appeared ready to shoot, Dunsmore called its last time out.

Stepping back to the line moments later with the crowds still producing high decibel noise, Benson hit the first free throw to tie the game. Tension mounted even further, as he eyed the basket and let his second shot go. It hit the front of the rim and went in, giving Perryville Christian a 73-72 victory,  but Benson made a crucial and critical mistake, he failed to point heavenward, signifying praise to the Lord, as his team mates mobbed him. His coach, John Vetters, rushed to floor and pulled Benson away from his team mates, yelling, "How could you fail to praise the Lord at a time like this? You failed not only our team and our school, but, even more, the Lord Jesus Christ! You missed an opportunity for a powerful witness. You are through with this team, get dressed and find your own way home!"

Principal Alan Morris, standing behind the coach, grabbed Benson, saying, "And don't bother showing up for school tomorrow. You are expelled. You are a disgrace to our school, and we do not, I repeat, we do not want you back. Maybe you can find a godless public school to take you."

Benson's parents, Bill and June, while supportive of their son, also expressed their disappointment that he failed to witness to his faith by pointing heavenward. "We love Scott very much," his mother said, "He has to take the consequences for his sin in this regard. We will be praying for his forgiveness and for his willingness to grow from this experience."

Benson was quoted as saying, "Sheesh, I was so excited that we won that I simply forgot. I didn't do it on purpose. I was just caught up in the moment. I don't see why I had to be kicked off the team and expelled. Maybe I could have run extra laps, or something like that, but getting expelled. I don't get it. I really don't." Tears were streaming down his face as he left the floor.

Principal Morris upon hearing Benson's remarks, said, "That boy has a lot to learn. I didn't hear any sign of repentance at all from him. His pride is unbelievable."
